State Police Ask for Help in New York Trooper’s Death
Police are asking the public for help in the investigation of a tragic car accident that claimed the life of 31-year-old State Trooper Amanda Anna. The trooper died early Saturday morning from injuries sustained in the Friday night car accident in Hastings, NY, according to Your News Now.com.
The on-duty officer was traveling in her Chevy Tahoe on County Route 37, when, according to data retrieved from the tracking system in the trooper’s vehicle, she turned around, possibly in pursuit of another vehicle. The trooper apparently lost control of her vehicle causing the SUV to strike a guardrail. The vehicle then went airborne, landed in a grassy area and rolled. Anna was taken to the hospital where she later died.
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo issued a statement Saturday sending his condolences to the family and friends of State Trooper Amanda Anna. Cuomo said, in part, “For the six years that Trooper Anna served as a member of the State Police, she put protecting the people of the State of New York before all else. New York is a safer state as a result of Trooper Anna’s commitment and dedication, and we mourn her untimely passing.”
Anna leaves behind her mother, step-father, four-year-old child and a fiancé, who is also a state trooper.
Officer Down, a website that tracks the death of all U.S. police officers, reports that 41 officers have died this year. Of those, 17 died as a result of an automobile accident. Trooper Anna was the first law enforcement officer to die in New York this year.
