East Ohio Gas Sued In Fatal House Explosion
The husband of a woman who died as the result of their house exploding and burning in Eastlake on January 28, 2009, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against East Ohio Gas Company (EOG), according to wkyc.com.
The lawsuit alleges the company was negligent in the pipe installation which led to the gas explosion by using plastic pipe instead of steel pipe to connect the EOG gas line into the home. The plastic pipe cracked and allowed gas to escape into the home where an appliance’s motor in the kitchen ignited the gas.
The couple, both 88 years old at the time of the incident, was trapped inside the house. The fire leveled their home and destroyed all their belongings. The husband was critically injured in the fire and his wife died 18 hours later
