Doctor Could Lose License After Multiple Patient Deaths

Published January 27, 2009 by Scott Gottlieb, Injury Law Attorney

A Virginia Beach, Va. doctor faces a hearing this week before the Virginia Board of Medicine — which suspended his license in August — to decide if he will be able to keep practicing medicine.

According to The Virginian Pilot, Dr. Stephen Plotnick is known for his aggressive treatment of fibromyalgia by using powerful narcotics. At least five of his patients have died of overdoses while others were hospitalized for severe depression and addictive symptoms. Dr. Plotnick has been named as the defendant in six malpractice suits. One of the cases has been settled.

Medical malpractice occurs when health care professionals make a mistake that harms the patient they are supposed to help. Medical malpractice can be devastating emotionally and cause life-altering injuries that are expensive for the victims and their families. Medical malpractice is a politically charged issue, which has led to an extremely complex set of state laws governing malpractice lawsuits. It is important to speak with an experienced firm if you or someone you care about has been injured by the carelessness of a medical professional.

At the Rochester, NY Law Offices of Scott C. Gottlieb & Associates, LLP, we have extensive experience with medical malpractice claims, which are one of the most difficult areas of litigation, since the negligent action must be documented and proven within specific guidelines.
