$11.1 Million Awarded To Nine-Year-Old In Medical Malpractice Lawsuit
A Florida jury has awarded $11.1 million to the family of a 9-year-old boy in a medical malpractice case filed against All Children’s Hospital, reports the St. Petersburg Times.
In August 2000, the boy — then 3 months old — was taken to the hospital after being sick for days with vomiting and diarrhea. After four hours, the mother was told he was fine and she could take him home. The next morning, he was rushed back to All Children’s Hospital when he had trouble breathing. The lawsuit alleged the hospital and the medical staff did not properly check the child for dehydration on the first visit, causing him to suffer from irreversible brain damage.
A doctor, who was considered to be 40 percent responsible for the boy’s condition, has settled out of court for an undisclosed amount, according to the article
