The village of
Endicott, New
York, found in beautiful Broome
County, has been called the "Birthplace of the Computer" as well as "The Home of the Square Deal".
George F. Johnson, philanthropist and business mogul who created one of the largest shoe companies in the country here in Endicott, developed a philosophy that if one treated their workers well and gave them decent pay, they would return that with loyalty and fine work. His 'Square Deal' theory worked well, and the Endicott factory drew over 20,000 immigrants into the area and Johnson's wealth grew. He gave back to his community. He erected numerous parks and six marvelous musical wooden carousels that still stand throughout Broome County, enjoyed at no charge by area residents.
America's huge
IBM corporation was also founded here and still is one of the area's top employers. Endicott Village and the neighboring town of Union, NY have plenty of room for more industry. They boast excellent municipal services, inexpensive water and electric rates, as well as am available hard working, well-educated workforce. Endicott's En-Joi Golf Course is home to the BC Open, one of the stops on the annual PGA Tour.
Portions of Endicott and Union exist in a 'Historically Underutilized Business Zone' (HUBzone) and
federal, state and county incentives are all in place to aid new corporations and firms in relocating to this lovely area.
According to the Census 2000, Endicott's population stood at just over 13,000, but Broome County is one of New York's fastest growing regions, so that number is expected to grow substantially. Endicott sits only 10 miles from the larger city of
Binghamton, whose renowned colleges and hospitals, as well as the
Binghamton Regional
Airport, service the town.
Broome County, located in upstate
New York’s beautiful
Leatherstocking
Region, and known for its many rivers, lakes and streams, offers outdoor enthusiasts year round delight: fishing and boating during the summer, and ice skating as well as hockey matches during the winter. The
Endicott Performing Arts Center brings culture to the tiny village, while the nearby cities of Union and Binghamton, offer a wide range of entertainment options.
The Village of Endicott, New York is primed and ready for a wonderful future.
