Harley Davidson Issues Recall of Some Bikes Due to Faulty Brakes
Harley Davidson announced that it is recalling some of its model year 2009 – 2012 motorcycles due to possible brake failure. The company will notify owners of the impacted bikes for details on the repairs around October 31, 2011.
Our Binghamton, NY motorcycle accident attorneys recommend that Harley Davidson owners review the list of recalled models on the NHTSA website.
The recall includes Touring, CVO Touring and Trike motorcycles from the years 2009 to 2012 that were manufactured and sold in the U.S. between June 6, 2008, and Sept. 16, 2011.
The company indicated that they had been notified of a potential problem in one of the model Trike motorcycles.
Harley Davidson reported that excessive heat from the exhaust system may cause the rear brake lamp to fail when the brakes are applied or to illuminate when the brake is not applied. It may also cause brake fluid to leak.
Either of these could cause the brakes to fail and result in a crash. One crash in Louisiana is being investigated due to brake failure which may be related to the issue.
Binghamton Harley Davidson owners should return their bikes to the dealers for free installation of brake switch kit which will resolve the issue.
