Drunk Driving Leads to Vehicular Assault Charge
A motorcyclist was injured when a Montour Falls man struck him while driving drunk. The accident occurred last Friday at the intersection of College Avenue and Turner Park in Montour Falls outside of Elmira. Authorities reported that the 40-year-old, drunk driver turned into the path of the motorcyclist. He was charged with first-degree vehicular assault.
Rescue crews airlifted the motorcyclist to Robert Sayre Hospital with a serious leg injury.
Our car accident attorneys encourage New York drivers to stay off the roads after they have been drinking. Also, all drivers in Binghamton should stay alert to all drivers and the dangers they may present.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported in August the results of a year-long survey and study that found that 8 percent of all drivers had driven drunk over the prior 12-month period. That translates to nearly 17 million drivers.
Reportedly one of every 130 licensed drivers in the U.S. are arrested annually and charged with drunk driving. This is nearly 1.5 million US drivers.
The first-degree vehicular assault charge was one of several the Montour Falls driver faces, including driving while intoxicated, failure to yield the right of way and failure to keep right. He was remanded to Schuyler County Jail.
Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood spoke in August about the dangers of drunk driving saying “Drunk driving is deadly, it’s against the law, and unfortunately, it’s still a problem.” Secretary LaHood also said, “With the help of law enforcement around the country, we are going to continue doing all that we can to stop drunk driving and the needless tragedies that result from this reckless behavior.”
The accident attorneys at Scott C. Gottlieb, Injury Law Attorney, encourage all New York drivers to prevent car accidents that could result in injuries or death to themselves or innocent victims sharing the roadways.
