Broome County Plans Halloween Surprise for Drunk Drivers
As Halloween approaches, drunk drivers in Broome County be forewarned – the police are waiting for you.
Police patrols will be stepped up across the county for Halloween and the subsequent holiday season. Their primary targets: motorists who drink and drive.
According to Binghamton NewsChannel 34:
County Executive Debbie Preston and Sheriff David Harder have announced the county has received a grant for more than $20,000. The grant will allow for increased patrols specifically targeting DWI offenders. It will cover seven time periods starting from this Halloween and including holidays later this year and next year.
Preston says her aunt was killed by a drunk driver. “It is my mission and the Broome County DWI staff to stop those who drink from getting behind the wheel in the first place. And I urge everyone to stay alive. Don’t drink and drive.”
Sheriff David Harder says, “We all strive to do the best job we can to eliminate driving while intoxicated. That’s just part of it. We’ll be out in force.”
There were 641 DWI arrests made last year in Broome County.
