Drunk Driver Fatally Injures NY Couple

A husband and wife from Greece, NY, were killed when the car they were in was struck by a hit-and-run driver.  A 39-year-old chiropractor was charged with driving while intoxicated and fleeing the scene of an accident at Strong Memorial Hospital after suffering injuries in the accident.

Our Binghamton, NY car accident attorneys encourage drivers to be alert to other drivers who are driving erratically or speeding who may cause serious injuries or fatalities on our roadways.   Call the police if you suspect someone is driving while intoxicated.

The husband and wife were traveling north in Parma, several hours north of Binghamton, on Route 259 in a Toyota Camry when the drunk driver, who was driving an SUV, struck their car.  The driver did not stop, but sped off eventually striking a tree.

Both the driver and his passenger were injured.  The passenger is in guarded condition in Strong Memorial Hospital.

In NY, a driver is considered drunk with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or greater.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it is estimated that one-third of all motor vehicle accidents involved a driver with a BAC over the legal limit.

While most of those killed are in the 21- to 24-year-old age group, more experienced drivers are still disregarding their safety and the safety others by drinking and driving.

In the case of this accident, the man is survived by his parents, sisters and children.  His wife also leaves behind family members who will never recover from the loss of their loved one.  The community also grieves the loss of a caring volunteer and a revered teacher.

Our NY car accident attorneys ask that if you see anyone getting behind the wheel after drinking, help find them alternate and safe transportation to keep our Binghamton roads safe.
