Honda Recalls Pilot SUV Due to Seatbelt Defect
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Honda is recalling some of its 2009-2011 Pilot SUVs due to seat belt issues. Owners should begin receiving recall notices in the mail in early October.
Our injury attorneys in Binghamton, NY, encourage vehicle owners to immediately have their Pilot SUV inspected to make sure that their front seat belts are properly installed. When used and working properly, seatbelts save approximately 9,500 lives per year.
The recall affects over 310,000 vehicles, according to Honda. In a statement, Honda said the voluntary recall is due to a manufacturing error on some front seat belts “where the stitching connecting the lap section of the belt to the outboard anchor webbing may be incomplete or missing.”
While the company stated that no injuries or deaths have been reported as a result of the defect, the restraints could become disconnected from the anchor webbing, and increase the chances of injury in the case of an accident.
Owners needing additional information about the recall may contact Honda directly at their customer service center at 1-800-999-1009 or visit the NHTSA website for further information. Use NHTSA campaign ID Number 11V468000 in the “quick search” box.
New York state law requires all front seat passengers wear seatbelts. The seat belt law specifically states that noncompliance is a primary enforcement violation where drivers may be pulled over if law enforcement expects violations.
