Roadcheck Campaign Targets Commercial Vehicle Safety
As part of its annual effort to improve truck and cargo vehicle safety, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced that it will conduct its annual inspections in early June. Roadcheck 2011 truck and bus inspections are conducted during a 72-hour inspection period. Approximately 10,000 CVSA-certified local, state, provincial and federal inspectors at 1,500 locations will perform bus and truck inspections in the US, Mexico and Canada.
Throughout the year, CVSA-certified inspectors work in concert with other inspectors throughout North America to conduct compliance, enforcement, and training activities for commercial vehicles. The Roadcheck 2011 is just one of those efforts that includes examining motor carrier and cargo trucks as well as the drivers of those vehicles.
Drivers in Binghamton should be aware that these inspections are occurring throughout the state of New York, and recognize their importance in preventing truck, bus and other commercial vehicle accidents. Our injury attorneys applaud this effort and encourage all drivers to be alert to trucks and other commercial vehicles on the roadside.
Inspectors will stop trucks and other cargo vehicles to examine equipment, review and analyze driver log books, and ensure compliance with license and endorsement regulations. They will also make sure truck and commercial vehicle drivers show no signs of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
In 2009, New York truck drivers were involved in over 9,500 accidents with 100 fatalities. Eighty-six of the fatalities were attributed to human factors. Nine were attributed to vehicle problems. The remaining fatalities were due to poor signage, bad weather, wet pavement, or other roadway factors.
Since 1988, the CVSA has estimated that their safety efforts have saved more than 220 lives and prevented over 4,000 injuries related to cargo vehicle accidents.
The Roadcheck and the other annual campaigns and events sponsored by the CVSA attempt to reduce the commercial vehicle dangers by developing and conducting educational awareness efforts, distributing educational literature, and conducting safety events to educate industry and the general public about the importance of safe commercial vehicle operations and the roadside inspection program.
The injury attorneys at Scott C. Gottlieb, Injury Law encourage truck drivers in all NY cities to remain alert and vigilant when driving New York roads. All vehicle drivers should practice safe and courteous driving and be alert to the dangers facing them.
