Widow Gets $1.88 Million in Medical Malpractice Claim
The Times-Tribune of Scranton, PA reports a jury has awarded $1.8 million in a medical malpractice lawsuit filed on behalf of her husband who died in 2008.
The suit was filed against the pathologist, the urologist, and the hospital for failing to diagnose her husband’s bladder cancer. According to the complaint, the man was seen multiple times between September 2002 and January 2004 complaining of urinary problems. A bladder biopsy was done in 2003 and sent to the pathologist who failed to diagnose the cancer. In 2004, another doctor correctly diagnosed the man’s cancer, but by that time it had spread.
The pathologist and the hospital reached a confidential settlement with the widow. The urologist has appealed the jury verdict.
