Calif. Medical Malpractice Suit Filed When Wrong Ovary Removed
California’s Contra Costa Times reports a 45 year-old woman has filed a lawsuit naming her gynecologist and Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Medical Center, claiming the doctor removed the wrong ovary during an operation.
According to the lawsuit, a pelvic ultrasound showed a cystic mass on the right ovary and the doctor recommended removing the entire right ovary and Fallopian tube because of the risk of a rupture or cancer.
The doctor removed the left ovary and Fallopian instead. Later testing on the left ovary showed no cyst and no cancer, according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit alleges medical malpractice and seeks compensation for medical and legal expenses, loss of earnings and other damages.
